Computer Courses

We are happy to present 2 computer courses for the community available through the JCSD Course Catalogue. There are two courses available. The first course is a one session, 2 hour course designed to explain basic computer terms such as RAM, Hard Drive, CPU, Motherboard, Firewalls, etc. This is helpful when upgrading or purchasing your computer.

The second course offered  is a three-part course designed to give you a well rounded explination of the computer and basic terms, as indicated in the above description and adds internet basics and safety and security online.

You can read the full descriptions below as well as find a direct link to register for the courses.

Buying or Upgrading Your Computer

Do you find yourself intimidated by computer geek-speak? Would you like to have a clearer understanding (in non-jargon language) of how your computer works?  We will both demonstrate and explain how your computer works in an easy-to-follow, self-paced format.

This class is designed for both the first time computer user, and who want a better understanding of the basics such as Firewalls, RAM, Hard Drive, CPU’s, Operating Systems, etc. It's also geared towards anyone who has not grown up with a personal computer and now needs to acquire the same assuredness of the younger "internet-surfing" generation.

Whether you're a novice or simply someone facing a daunting basic computer skill challenge, this course will give you a greater understanding and confidence in your technical skills--whether on your home or office computer. So why not join today and let's take the stress out of using your computer!

Instructor Notes:

This is not a hands on course. You can bring your laptop, but instruction will not be laptop or computer based. These are concept courses, showing and telling you what you REALLY need to know about using your computer, not techno-geeky DOS or LINUX commands. There is a large 84"screen and  HD Projector. For example, we will not be showing you how to use your Operating system or fix your computer, rather, you will learn the different types of operating systems, what they are, and why they matter when buying or upgrading.

Handouts will be given out covering topics.

Dates & Times: There are two dates for this course for your convenience. 3/9/10 & 5/10/10 6pm.
